You’re a guitar player and you need a small tube guitar amp to play in a band and doesn’t want just any old amp.

The best amps are both affordable, but don’t compromise on the sound quality. They also have lots of different settings to give you the tone you want. Who knew finding an amp could be so hard?

VHT’s AV-SP1-6 Special 6 is your answer! This is an awesome little amplifier that sounds great and comes in at an unbeatable price. I love this amp.

Features Of The VHT AV-SP1-6 Special 6

This guitar amplifier is pretty simple, all it does is get out of the way and let you concentrate on your playing.

It can be easily controlled with just a couple of knobs. It has two channels, one that has gain and volume controls and another channel that is meant to be used as a clean-channel switch for when you want to play without overdrive.

The 10 inch speaker is a custom designed VHT Amplification speaker that is lightweight, rugged and sounds great.

It has a hi/low power switch that increases the headroom on the amp like you would get with a larger amp but with lower volume. It does this without sacrificing tone. This amp is great for small venues or your bedroom or basement jam session.

How The VHT AV-SP1-6 Special 6 Plays

I plugged this into an EHX Big Muff Pi and it sounded really good. It sounded like it was right at home behind that pedal. It doesn’t have a whole lot of character but what it lacks in character, it makes up for with tone.

This tube amp has a really nice thick distortion sound without sounding muddy or thin. It is very versatile and can deliver the kind of tone you are looking for from an amp. It sounds good clean too. The overdrive is on the warmer side and if you are into that good old-fashioned rock sound, this is the amp for you.

It has a tremendous amount of headroom and sounds great at low volumes. I liked it best with a humbucker equipped guitar and it really delivered the punch I was looking for. The clean channel is great too.

It is very crisp and clear sounding, but you can run this amp full blast and it won’t get distorted or compressed the way some combo amps do. It has some guts to it and you can run this guitar amp hard with no problems at all.

Listen To This Amp

  • Very versatile, it will sound good with a variety of different guitar tones
  • Sounds great clean and overdriven on the clean channel.
  • The footswitchable boost is a nice touch, especially for those who like to use pedals with this amp.

  • No effects loop: if you are looking for an amp that can be used for recording at low volumes, this amp will do the job but won’t be ideal in that respect.

The VHT AV-SP1-6 Special 6 has a lot of qualities that make it a great buy. It is easy to use, sounds good, and won’t break the bank. It doesn’t have to be pushed to get some great sounds out of it. I definitely recommend this amp if you are looking for a no-frills amp that will play your instrument well with pedals and provides some nice tones.
